To easily check the version you are operating under:
If it is a Windows98 machine, open up My Computer from the icon on
your desktop. From there, go to Help, then click About
and a screen will appear that will list the version, release date, and
whether it is the original version of Windows98 or the SE version, which
stands for Second Edition.
If it is a Windows2000 machine - Standard or Professional, open up
My Computer from your desktop or by clicking on Start and
then in that menu, click on My Computer. From there, go to
Help, then click About and a screen will appear that will
list the version, release date, and what service pack you have
installed. This also works for WindowsME (Millennium Edition).
If it is a Windows XP Home, XP Standard Edition or Professional
Edition, open up My Computer by clicking Start and then in
that menu, click on My Computer. From there, go to Help,
then click About and a screen will appear that will list the
version, release date, and what service pack you have installed.
